The B-25 B was the first operational variant of the famous Mitchell bomber.  The B-25 was developed and fielded by North American Aviation, and the B model as shown here on the right, which was used by Col. Doolittle in his famous Tokyo on April 18, 1942.  The B model's top speed was 300 mph, and for the raid had it's read guns removed and replaced with broom sticks cut down and painted black.   The raid itself while doing little physical damage was a big boost to the morale of the united states population at large, and caused the Japanese to alter their war plan.  the altered war plan was launched under the ill-conceived strategy that led to their defeat at the Battle of Midway...the turning point of the Pacific war, in June of 1942.
