On the left is a real A6M5 Zero as used in the movie Pearl Harbor.  On the right is a Mitsubishi A6M2b as actually flown by the attacking elements.  AI-101 flown by PO1 Tadeo Kimura off the Carrier Akagi.  PO1 Kimura was wingman to Saburo Shindo, Leader of the 2nd Wave Fighter Packet.  The background of this page is the electronic replication of the color actually used by the A6M2bs at Pearl Harbor based upon relics from downed Japanese A6M2b Zero aircraft.  Each aircraft Carrier had its own Code and colors.  Akagi was Tail Code AI-1XX, with one red stripe.  Kaga was AII-1XX with 2 red stripes forward of the tail.  Soryu fighters carried their numbers in a Royal Blue with tail code BI-1XX and a single blue stripe.  IJN Carrier HIRYU fighter aircraft were denoted by tail code BII-1XX.  Shokaku aircraft carried one White Stripe tail coded in a like manner with the letters EI-1XX.  Finally Zuikaku was recorded as 2 white stripes, and the tail code EII-1XX.  All zero fighter aircraft carried a bluish black cowl, and the aircraft number was recorded on the front of the cowl.  All fighter aircraft carried their drop tanks throughout the attack.  There were NO green zero aircraft at Pearl Harbor.  AI-101 Model by Michael Gawell.
