sbdhenderson1.jpg (28580 bytes)Maj. Lofton Henderson's SBD-2, Midway Island, June 4, 1942.  Maj. Henderson, as is well known, was the CO of VMSB-241. He was killed in action leading his squadron to attack the Japanese Carrier Fleet.
sbdhenderson2.jpg (30740 bytes)The kit is the Hasegawa SBD-3, with the KMC interior set and the rear machine gun from an AM SBD-3 kit, plus some scratch building to add various radios and control levers to the cockpit.  Bomb is a left over from the AM B-25 and the rear machine gun is from an AM SBD-3 kit.
sbdhenderson3.jpg (53264 bytes)Paint was Model Master Navy Blue Gray enamel, with a "pinch" of  Green Zinc Chromate added, over Model Master FS 36440 Flat Gull Gray.
sbdhenderson4.jpg (36370 bytes)Painted out Markings - Red dots are Insignia White, rudder stripes, and task letter, were PRU Blue lightened with Insingia white, badly faded areas are Navy Blue Gray with lots of Insigna White added.
sbdhenderson5.jpg (33995 bytes)In room (incandescent) light, the model is slightly darker in hue than the photos indicate: Lighter than FS35189, a little darker than FS 35190, and a near match, but slightly darker, to FS35177. Haven't checked it out outdoors yet - It's been too damn cold here in Wichita, an frequently overcast as well!
