The BF-109 E was the fighter mainstay of the Battle of Britain for the mighty German Luftwaffe.  Beset by problems of range, and bad tactical directives from German Headquarters, it suffered losses accordingly.  While the Bf-109E was accorded a better rate of climb, and of dive than either the Spitfire or the Hurricane, it could not turn as rapidly.  The yellow nose of the "109" became one the most feared sights to have behind you should you be flying for the R.A.F.  at the time of the Eagle Squadron in 1941, the Bf-109E-3, 4, 7s were being replaced by the first F models with improved engines and a centered firepower.  Also coming onto the scene were the first of the Focke-Wulf 190 As (not pictured)
