Building a Dasault Falcon 50 in 1/48 scale. First you must obtain several models to make your construction easier. Since the Falcon 50 is an extension of a Falcon 20 or 200 the 1/48 scale (1/50) Heller "Mystere 20" is the kit to buy and start with (if you can find one). Next you will need a 1/48 scale Hasagawa Falcon 10 as you will need it’s engines and four windows. Next obtain a 1/144 Lockheed L-1011 model, the modelcraft is the only one available, otherwise the Revell one is adequate (if you can find this one too).

Construction:

To begin with you will have to assemble both fuselages of the two models, do the Mystere 20 first. On the left side of the fuselage you will need to make a door pattern scribed in the area between the forward cabin window and cockpit windows, or cut out this section if you want to have the door open (try not to destroy this piece as you will have to glue it into the right side of the model, as they put the door on the wrong side of the airplane). Next cut the tail off before it begins to taper down to a point. At this point you can measure the length you need of the L-1011 model and cut the nose off. At this time you can measure a floor if you want to have one and slide in the interior. In the remaining section of the L-1011 you will need to fill in the little passenger windows and drill out two larger windows on both side as the cabin is a bit longer than that of the Falcon 20. At this time attach the L-1011 tail to the forward section of the Falcon 20 and fill in appropriately. At the tail of the L-1011 you need to also sand off and fill the hole where the horizontal stabilizer were to be placed, extend the middle engine so it looks like the other engines. You will need to extend the top of the vertical stabilizer about 1/2 inch and the trailing edge about 1/4 inch. Mid point on the fin, even with the top of the intake on the trailing edge there is a cone extending beyond the trailing edge ( this is where you attach the horizontal stabilizer canted down slightly). Attach the engines from the Falcon 10 kit mid point on the fuselage slightly behind the intake of the middle engine. The wings are of a similar shape to the ones of the L-1011 but 1 1/2 inches longer and slightly wider as they taper from the fuselage so you will have to scratch build them also remember that the underside of the trailing wing is slightly supercritical so you will have to carve this into the wing as well. Now remember there are several ways to scratch build a wing, or control surface, the easiest way I have found is lamination where you build up the surface area by gluing many layers of plastic building up areas where the thickness is more apparent, then after it dries thoroughly taking a new (sharp) exacto blade and scrapping the wing to shape and then sanding it smooth. The wing fillet of the L-1011 is correct for the Falcon 50. You can either use the landing gear of the Mystere 20 or any of similar diminution from the parts box if you desire more detail.

Painting:

Since this airplane is owned by a large variety of business as well as countries for executive transport the exterior can be anything you as the owner desires. From a white aircraft with small pinstripes to multi-colored fuselages and wings with or without stripes. The internet has photos of various styles of paint schemes.

You should now have a very unique and interesting model.
