Trumpeter has come out with three variations of the Tupolev Tu-16 Badger 1/72 scale. These three models, numbers 12, 13, 14 will help you to build almost any version of the Badger available. Number 13, for example would enable you to build either variation "C or D" depending on a missile or electronic airplane. Most versions of the Badger are silver or gray, sometimes with a white bottom. Often the silver is a paint used as a protection , so multiple panel coloring isn’t totally necessary. Some of the aircraft that have been sold to the countries of the Middle-East have a variety of different color camouflage schemes. The only difficulties you might have in some of the variations is fabricating the various antennas that some of the many versions have and the wing tip refueling system the Russian aircraft have had. Number 14 on the other hand comes as one of the Chinese refueling aircraft, but also comes with the standard clear nose piece that most aircraft are fitted with. Aside from the various missions the aircraft was designed to do the models come with a wide variety of stand off anti-ship missiles and various bombs to go in the bomb bay. The Badger "F" has a tail antenna that takes the place of the tail gun turret, this might be a little difficult to fabricate.

The Badger is one of the first mass-produced heavy jet bombers designed and built from the original Tu-4 (a captured and reproduced B-29). Later one of the first Russian civilian jet transports the Tu-104 was built using most of the components of the Badger. Other than a slight engine shape change and a larger fuselage, they are both the same aircraft. A later design the Tu-124 uses the same diameter fuselage as the original B-29.

These models, when opened have many parts, similar to that of the various other Trumpeter kits. The ailerons, rudder and elevators are all separate, enabling the modeler to show various positions as well as adding to the realism of the model. Unfortunately the model comes with intake covers on the engines thus causing the modeler to fabricate an intake tube and forward engine blades. The model instructions suggest that you paint the interior "black" and the main wheels "olive drab" most aircraft sold or used by the Russians have a blue-green interior (similar to Gunze Sanyo H-46) and gun-carriage dark green wheels. Chinese aircraft have gray interiors or sometimes revert to the Russian standard. The only alternative to this model is to buy a "Combat Models Vac-form" if you can find it, and one by a Russian modeling company for twice the price and causing much more modeling skill.
